Indominus Rex

Indominus Rex

Indominus Rex is the main attraction of the dinosaur park in the fictional universe of Jurassic World. It is a hybrid creature created in Hammond’s laboratory by combining the genetic traits of several species of dinosaurs: Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Carnotaurus, Giganotosaurus, Deinosuchus, Therizinosaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops as well as some modern animals such as sepia, tree frog and viper. Aptly named Fierce or Indomitable King, this monster of biogenetic is a predator even more formidable than the Tyrannosaurus. As described by Dr. Henry Wu: "Indominus Rex was not bred. It was designed. It will be 50 feet long at adult-size. It will be bigger than the T-Rex and smarter."

It is the protagonist of the film Jurassic World (2015) and also appears in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) alongside the new creation: the Indoraptor. These blockbuster movies feature machoman Velociraptor tamer Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, and Jurassic World Senior Asset Manager Claire Dearing, starring Bryce Dallas Howard.

Indominus Rex Features

To quote Claire about the DNA of Indominus: "The basic genome is a T-Rex, the rest is classified". Despite its size of 6 meters (20 feet), this hybrid tyrannosaur is able to run at speeds of 50 km / h when confined to its enclosure and the sound of its roar rivals that of a Boeing 7/47 aircraft taking off. At first glance Indominus Rex looks a lot like the T-Rex, but there are several features that distinguish it: it has two little horns above the eyeballs, the ornamentation of its head is unique and its back is covered with ultra-strong pointed osteoderms that can be traced to abelisaurs and are able to withstand shots of GE M134 Minigun and even indirect shots of AT4 rocket launcher.

Indominus Rex is easily recognizable by its enormous sickle-shaped claws on each of its fingers and long front legs that come from the DNA of Therizinosaurus. Only a few hits are enough to kill giant sauropods such as Apatosaurus.

Like sepia, Indominus is able to change color to camouflage itself while hunting allowing it to grow at a faster rate. It also has feathers that sprout under its arms and on its skull. Its teeth resemble those of crocodiles and come from the Deinosuchus genome. Reaching 50 feet in length and 20 feet in height, its size surpasses that of gigantic theropods used for its creation such as the Giganotosaurus. Like the Tyrannosaurus, the strength of its bite is unmatched: Indominus Rex can easily grind an armored Gyrosphere or break the neck of an Ankylosaurus.

The treefrog genus, which was supposed to allow it to adapt to the climate of Isla Nublar, rather allowed it to remove its own thermal signature. Thanks to its viper features, Indominus Rex is also able to detect the thermal signatures of others. This hybrid has an extraordinary intelligence and is able to communicate with velociraptors. For example, it is able to make others believe that it escaped from its pen and remembers where and when its creators inserted its follow-up implants.

Indominus Rex displays predatory and cannibalistic tendencies as soon as it sees the light of day as it kills and devours its own sister. These wild traits come from the genome of T-Rex and Majungasaurus as evidenced by fossils.

Jurassic World

Jurassic World Synopsis

After the success of the park has diminished a few years after its inauguration, the leaders of Jurassic World have wished to create a new attraction to rekindle enthusiasm and catapult online ticket sales. Following a unanimous vote by investors at a meeting of the company's board of directors, Jurassic World CEO Simon Masrani gave Dr. Wu approval to start developing a new hybrid species in Hammond Creation Laboratories.

After Indominus Rex attempts to break observation windows in its paddock, Claire Dearing seeks help from Owen Grady to inspect the inclosure for vulnerabilities. The same day, Indominus managed to disappear from the thermal cameras and leave scratch marks on the walls to make believe that it managed to escape by climbing over the rampart. When Owen Grady - accompanied by the paddock supervisor and a worker - approaches the paddock to investigate, Indominus Rex ambushes them and manages to escape by smashing the door that is not yet completely closed.

Attracted by the thermal signature of visitors, the hybrid then heads to the Jurassic World Park where it intends to make a buffet. It manages to remove the follow-up implant from its pulpit and to exterminate the entire team of soldiers from the Asset Containment Unit. It then attacks brothers Zach and Gray Mitchell who are quietly observing ankylosaurs in the restricted area of the park forcing them to jump off a waterfall.

After rocambolesque adventures, Indominus Rex end up on Main Street in pursuit of Owen, Claire and the Mitchell brothers. It engaged in a vigorous fight against a Tyrannosaurus and a pack of raptors where it is severely wounded before being carried away to its death in the adjacent lagoon by a vicious over-sized Mosasaurus.
